Moving Your Pets With Ease & Comfort

Pet Taxi / Transport Singapore

It is not very easy to get cabs for people with pets. You may call the taxi company and then ask the driver whether they can accept the pets and most of the time, they are not willing especially if the pet is big.

In Singapore, there is a need to be sensitive to Muslim drivers who would not be receptive to accept a dog for religious reasons and that should be acceptable. Other drivers are concerned that the dog will dirty the seat and the dog may get carsick or stressed or the dog may not be calm and try to approach the driver. The dog may be too excited or try to bite.

Currently, Pet taxis or transport providers do not require any special permit or operating licence from the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA). However, if there are complaints or feedback, AVA will conduct investigation for any allegation of animal cruelty.

Prices for a single trip range from $15 to $50, dependent on the distance to the destination and whether the service is done on a weekday or weekend. Services during the weekend are more expensive. There are some providers, which offer emergency services on 24-hour basis.

Changing Needs of Pet Taxi or Transport

Many years ago, the need for pet taxi is because the owners who do not own a car need to bring their pets to the veterinarian clinic for health reasons or for a check up.

The trend is changing as pet ownership increase and there is a good demand for pets to be sent back home after grooming sessions when the owners are at work. There have been several requests for pet transport to recreational locations, such as the beach, the dog run, pet cafes and for gatherings with family, friends or relatives. This trend indicates that pets have become furkids with owners who are treating them like children and the pets are also invited or encouraged for social gatherings.

With the government trying to deter car ownership and high Certificate of Entitlement (COE) cost, not many people have their own cars in Singapore.

What to Expect

Typically a van is being use for pet transport and pets are placed in a kennel, a cage, a dog carrier or simply leashed at the back of the van. Pet transport service providers are usually very familiar in handling the pets.

Vans or sports utility vehicles are ideal for carrying large crates but a car would suffice for the transportation of small pets. It should be clean, air-conditioned and well maintained.

Some providers have several crates of various sizes to accommodate pets so clear description of the pets would be much appreciated by the transport providers. You could opt for your pet not to ride in crates and use dog harness seatbelts but do ensure that your pet can be handled easily.

Pet transport providers should always be disinfecting the carriers and would be great if they could snap a photography of the pet when it reached the destination, especially if the owner is not present.

Common Issues

There are some common issues such as:

– The dog may bark a lot and took a long time to settle down
– The pet may pee, poop or vomit
– The pet may be get too nervous and difficult to control
– The transport service provider may not have the time to sanitize the van before picking up another pet
– The dog may get choked when it is leased as the dog may spin around if they get too excited
– Owners are not prepared to pay extra handling fees for accompany the pets to the vet or other places

Regardless of the issues faced, pet owners have to communicate their needs well in advance so that the pet taxi providers could be better prepared to do a good job in their services.

I asked the concierge for help in getting a 14-day home stay pet sitting. They got me a package, which includes 2-way trip and a bath for my dog.. It was just what I needed and I am also thankful for a friend who recommended me to Zippy Pet Services.

I had an eight-day pet hotel stay for my Chow Chow. It was great and a relief to me. They provided a air condition individual dog-house with , 2 way transport and even a micro-bubble spa. My dog seem to be extra happy when I came back from my trip.

Pet Services

Although Zippy Pet Services is quite new in the market but their network is really great. I had a grooming package for my Shih Tzu and they did a great job in the haircut including cutting of nails (which I hate), cleaning of ears and others. I was impressed by the dog groomer.
